More PaperArt

Hello there!!!

I was creating a few new pieces of 3D Origami aka Modular or Golden Venture Origami! Here is a little History ...

Paper was first invented by Cai Lun in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. In the 6th century, Buddhist monks carried paper to Japan. The earliest document showing paper folding is a picture of a small paper boat in an edition of Tractatus de sphaera mundi from 1490 by Johannes de Sacrobosco. However, it is very likely that paper folding originated much earlier than that in China and Japan for ceremonial purposes. In China, traditional funerals include burning folded paper, most often representations of gold nuggets (yuanbao). This practice probably started when papers gradually become popular and cheaper in China, and it seems to have become quite common during the Sung Dynasty. In Japan origami butterflies were used during the celebration of Shinto weddings to represent the bride and groom, so ceremonial paper folding had probably already become a significant aspect of Japanese ceremony by the Heian period (794–1185) of Japanese history.

It is possible that paper folding came to Japan from China when paper was introduced but there is no evidence for this. The paper folding of China has typically been of objects like dishes, hats or boats rather than animals or flowers of Japan. The Japanese treasure ship model is probably derived from the Chinese model which uses an unusual fold that may have been inspired by the folded sychee, however, in general, the models of the two countries are quite different.

In 1993, a group of Chinese refugees was detained on the ship Golden Venture and held in American prison, where they began making elaborate models combining traditional Chinese modular paper folding (utilizing materials such as magazine covers) with a form of papier-mΓ’chΓ© (using toilet tissue); these models were given to those aiding the refugees and sold at charity fund raisers. Media coverage of the refugees helped popularize traditional Chinese modular folding worldwide- which became known as 'Golden Venture folding'.

This type of modular folding is often done with Chinese paper money. Triangles are folded from multiple pieces of 1:2 aspect ratio paper, and connected by inserting a flap of one triangle into a pocket on the next. Popular subjects include pineapples, swans, and ships. This form of modular origami is commonly referred to as '3D origami'.

But enough .. here are some pictures of my PaperCreations!!

Paper .. Folding .. Cutting .. Weaving .. Painting etc

Hey You!!!

I was pretty busy these last few weeks and couldn't really sit down for either a new art project or making some new jewelry!! So ..... Booooooo!!!!! I think I spent more time (than usual) on You-Tube and Pinterest watching other creative souls do their thing just to get my little art-fix-high .. (huh??.. what?? .. there she goes with inventing new words again!! .. psssshhh!!!)

But TODAY was the day .. well, actually the last few days I started working on something NEW (to me). During my intense browsing I came across PaperArt .. the recycle-a-newspaper-by-rolling-it-up-and-making-something-amazing-out-of-it kind of Art!!! Have you ever been on Pinterest and looked at all the brilliant things people make out of PAPER?? It seems that especially in India and Russia people really like to create amazing things with this cheap material .. and the results are just stunning!!

So yeah, I started folding, cutting and rolling my old magazines!

Fold in half .. cut .. fold the half twice .. until every page is turned into 6 strips! .. and repeat! .. and repeat!!

Then every strip needs to be rolled into a tube! I am not about to bore you with the instructions for that.. there are tons of tutorials all over YouTube and Pinterest! But here is just a small part of my little stash after rolling and coloring!

I wanted to practice to see how this material is working for me .. so i started with a simple weave. Every kid can do that!! Yeah right .. not as easy as these professionals make it look like in their tutorials!!! Sigh!!!!

But anyhow, I have a new UnderAshtrayMat and two new CoffeMugCoasters! Ha,, there!!!

But really .. I know I can do better than that!!!!! And finally .. here comes the real project!!!! Lets take some wire .. and pinch of inspiration .. a pound of patience .. and viola!!!! Here she is!!!!

She is not 100% finished yet .. but I am sure you can imagine where this is going! And I really believe she needs a few sisters and children to make her happy!!

DIY .. Make Your Own Oil Diffuser

Hi there, you handy little DIYer!!!

Who doesn't want their home to smell fresh and relaxing??
I have a few incense burners, but yesterday I went shopping for a cute little oil diffuser with a candle! What a disappointment .. all have the same >blah< style .. all the same >blah< color and shape!! Pffffffffff ... I can make one of these myself!!! Back home I dug out some leftover polymer clay and started a prototype!!!  This is the result!!! Colorful .... eeeeehh??? πŸ˜

Of course, I couldn't just stop there and had to try another style! And in case you want to make one yourself, I did a little step-by-step thingy for you!

 You need some:

polymer clay (your choice of color or left-overs)
wire ( maybe you have an old wire hanger)
and maybe some acrylic paint
and glitter ( of course there must be glitter!!!!!)

First I had to warm and knead my clay .. I had a little piece left from my first diffuser (which since I like the bright colors and marbled look I did not add any paint) and added a few more pieces of random color clay!!!

I rolled the clay out and with a coffee cup (both sides for different sizes) I marked two circles .. do not cut right on the mark .. leave about an inch of clay around the circle .. a bigger one for the bottom .. smaller one for the top of the diffuser!

I added the wire to the bigger circle and covered the wire by rolling up the edge of the circle .. smooth it out and shape the stem(??? is that what you call the connection to the upper circle???) Whatever shape you use (I kind of worked with a half-moon shape) just make sure that the top and bottom circle are about 6 inches apart from each other!!! I double wrapped the back part to make it sturdy!

Next, I covered the wire with clay .. and shaped the small circle into a shallow little bowl! Let the clay dry a little (30 m9nutes) and then
bake the clay in the oven at 250F for about 15 minutes!

Every project and brand of clay is a little different .. so here is a little chart to help you!

This is the result after baking and cooling ..

.. but I didn't want to stop right there. I was not happy with the color! So I added a touch of acrylic color .. and a pinch of glitter ... and viola!!!!!!! My brand-new smelly-good oil diffuser!!!!

Not bad, huh???  πŸ€—

You Can Dream Again

This is for my TallGuy, who went thru Hell and Back this last year! He is one of the strongest characters I came across in a long time, but even he needs a few words of encouragement from time to time .... so this is for you, Anthony!!!

Dream again. Believe that there are possibilities beyond the walls, beyond what you are able to see. Dream as if it already unfolded into the realms of reality.

Maybe along the way, you lost it; along the way, you forgot how to dream. Maybe the world crashed in on you so hard, you no longer were the person who day-dreamed in your room about the future – about love, about magic, about being the own version of yourself, a version who stands out in the crowd reflecting the sunshine and beaming colors that resembled twilight.

You lost that part of you, and instead became the exact opposite of a dreamer. You became a realist, a cynic for your own good – for your own protection. You then walked only the paths you were sure of, destinations you were certain to reach because they were easy and calculated.

But this is the time to dream again, it’s okay to dream again. It’s okay to dream even after experiencing betrayals, disappointments, and rejections.

Look for that light that once shone to all of your hopes and dreams. Be reminded of how beautiful it was to dream and believe in oneself. Remember how courageous it was to fight against adversaries, how dauntless it is to stand strong and hold onto what you know you’re capable of doing.

This time around, promise yourself to be that dreamer once again. This time only wiser, yet bold enough to preserve the dreamer and not let the world shut it down.

Promise yourself to always try, regardless of the many doors that will be shut in your face,; promise yourself to never let a single day end without at least one step towards those dreams.

Promise yourself to resiliently function daily in excellence and diligence. Promise yourself to remain intact and confident regardless of what other people think because you know what you can do.

You are a dreamer once again and you shall walk through life geared with the strength of the lessons from the past.

Now you are unstoppable, you’re once again fearless.

You Can Dream Again
