These baked cinnamon sugar donuts are soft, fluffy cake-style donuts made in a donut pan ... not fried.
This easy homemade donut recipe takes about 45 minutes and you will have warm donuts coated in melted butter and cinnamon sugar for a classic bakery-style flavor.
The recipe yields 6 donuts.
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 large egg, at room temperature
1/3 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
1/4 cup milk, at room temperature
1/4 cup sour cream or plain yogurt, at room temperature
2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 and 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Topping
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Grease yoir donut pan with nonstick spray. Set aside.
Make the donuts: In a large bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk the egg, brown sugar, milk, and sour cream together until smooth. Whisk in the
melted butter and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix. The batter will be very thick.

Spoon the batter into the donut cavities.
Bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. To test, lightly press the top of a donut. If it springs back, they’re done.
Cool donuts in the pan for 2 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
To top the donuts combine the sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Dip the donuts in the melted butter, then dunk into the cinnamon sugar mixture.
